A little bit about me
I grew up on a farm in Ireland, so the road that led to where I am now has had a few twists and turns. What has stayed constant throughout is an interest in people and a love for listening to our stories.
I left Ireland to study Anthropology and Archaeology at Oxford, a degree that encouraged and expanded my curiosity in the variety of human experience and its common threads. After graduating, I spent ten years working in the corporate world, in research and strategy consulting. I lived in Brazil and Poland for brief periods, then spent twelve years living and working in London.
Like most therapists, it was my own experience of therapy that made me wonder about psychotherapy training. I loved the slow pace of sessions, the compassion and connection that allowed me to quieten the noise in my mind and see things more clearly. It felt real and human, a powerful counter-experience to work and life outside.
It was not until some years later that I finally took the leap into training, a journey that took me through counselling psychology, integrative psychotherapy, and eventually a master's degree in existential psychotherapy. My clinical placements included working in an NHS sexual trauma service and a university counselling service, which later became a contracted role. Since qualifying I have worked at Queen Mary University, the Maudsley Hospital and in private practice.
In 2024 I made the move to Portugal, another leap into the unknown. Navigating a new country, a new culture, a different rhythm of life is an adventure, but it is also quietly demanding in ways that are hard to anticipate. That experience has given me a particular appreciation for the complexity of transition, for how much it asks of us, as well as the rewards.
